The monograph titled “Novinarstvo i film” was recently published by Službeni glasnik, authored by Assistant Professor Dr. Maja Vukadinović from the Faculty of Contemporary Arts and Professor Dr. Sanja Domazet from the Faculty of Political Sciences.
This unique study, the first of its kind in our country, explores the genre of films about journalism and analyzes how media professionals are portrayed in numerous cinematic works. The authors examined the phenomenon of journalism in film over the past century, starting from the 1931 film “Naslovna strana”, considered the precursor of this genre, up to the latest cinematic achievements.
In addition to extensive research on films about journalists within popular culture and a historical overview of the treatment of this topic, the monograph also includes an analysis of ten key films. Among them are “Citizen Kane”, “All the President’s Men”, and “Broadcast News”.
Writer and dramaturg Professor Miomir Petrović, in his review, emphasizes that the authors, Sanja Domazet and Maja Vukadinović, are excellent theorists and practitioners who ambitiously dealt with the interdisciplinary representation of journalism and its depictions in film art within this monograph. This analysis delves deeply into the sociological, phenomenological, and communication aspects of journalism and film, highlighting their importance as fundamental pillars of democratic freedoms in contemporary civilization.
