The Character Design major within the Visual Arts study program offers specialized education where students undergo an intensive learning process to master the skills of drawing and painting figures. This major encompasses fundamental disciplines of Visual Arts with a deep focus on anatomy and physical characteristics of humans and living beings, preparing students to thoroughly understand and depict the figure in all its aspects. Through this major, students are gradually trained to apply their artistic knowledge and technical skills in creating and developing distinctive characters, which is a key aspect of figurative language.

The focus of this major is on studying the human body, anatomy in general, and the potential for transforming characters in different stylizations and contexts. Students engage in the challenge of understanding and representing the figure through various art styles, from realistic to abstract interpretations, enabling them to develop flexibility and innovation in their artistic work. This approach not only improves their drawing and painting skills but also prepares them for creatively solving problems and developing unique artistic identities.

The goal of the Character Design major is to train students to become professional character designers capable of working in various segments of creative industries. This includes film, animation, video games, comics, advertising, and many other areas where characterization is a central element. WHOM IS PAINTING INTENDED FOR?

The Character Design major is intended for Visual Arts students who want to deepen their understanding and skills in figurative drawing and painting, especially those aspiring to a career in character creation for various media. Ideal candidates are those who show a special interest in human anatomy, and character psychology and want to explore different styles and technical approaches in presenting human figures. Students fascinated by the process of transformation and adaptation of the human form in an artistic context, and who have a passion for creating complex, character-rich figures, will find this major extremely useful and inspiring.

Additionally, this major is ideal for those aiming to participate in creative industries such as animation, video games, film and television production, comics, and illustration. It provides fundamental skills and advanced knowledge necessary for creating authentic and visually appealing characters that can carry a story and emotional charge in various narrative formats. Entrance exam preparation

At the Faculty of Contemporary Arts you can prepare for the entrance exam free of charge and show your talent in the right way at the entrance exam that awaits. Entrance exam

At the entrance exam, the candidate has 180 minutes to create a charcoal drawing and another 180 minutes for a painting in tempera or acrylic. The topic is still life. The faculty provides the drawing paper and the surface for the painting, whereas the candidates should bring their own drawing and painting materials. Candidates also need to submit a portfolio (“map”) with finished works.

The practical part of the entrance exam is followed by a 15-minute interview with the candidate, which includes an evaluation of the portfolio and the works from the practical exam.

Duration: 1 day, 360 minutes plus 15-minute interview

If you decide to major in Character Design, you will learn how to thoroughly analyze and understand the human body and its anatomy, which is crucial for realistic and precise depiction of characters. You will master drawing and painting techniques necessary for creating figurative representations in various styles, from hyperrealism to stylization. You will acquire skills in interpreting and transforming human shapes and figures, enabling you to create unique and expressive characters. The program guides you through the character development process, teaching you how to develop complex psychological profiles and convey emotions and character traits through your artistic solutions, preparing you to effectively convey your ideas through visual language in the context of contemporary creative industries.
