On Wednesday, September 11, starting from 8 pm, the ULUS Gallery is hosting the opening of an exhibition called ‘The Awakening of the Myth’ by Miloš Vujić, a fantastic young painter from Banjaluka. The artist’s ninth exhibition is open through September 17.
The concept behind ‘The Awakening of the Myth’
‘The Awakening of the Myth’ forms part of ‘An Artist as a Mythologist’, a PhD art project comprising sixty oil on canvas paintings. ‘The Awakening of the Myth’ recognizes three stages in the development of the artist’s signature style, created in the process of exploring the Slavic myth.
The artist’s role is twofold: that of a creator and that of a researcher. The artist-mythologist collects myths and their interpretations, analyzes them and defines them anew through the painting process. The final expression of the artist’s work is a painting that offers a unique view of the mythological world. The myth, tradition and the author’s need to get to know and understand that world and then present, in a contemporary way, the abstraction of the myth in picture, become the motif of his art output.
The selected works constitute the key points in the development of a unique art style, the artist’s world and the transformation that follows the inner changes of the work as a whole. Although a small portion of the artist’s oeuvre, these paintings follow the chronology of the transformation regarding the Slavic myth as the initial motif.
