Andjela Petrovic / / News / 6. 09. 2023.
Our professor of stage movement, Marina Bukvički, returned from the 36th Montenegro Film Festival following her involvement in a film by our renowned director, Živko Nikolić.
This film achievement represents a tribute to one of the giants of Yugoslav and Montenegrin cinema and one of the most unique film authors at the 36th festival in Herceg Novi.
FILM HONORING A GREAT DIRECTOR OF YUGOSLAV CINEMA
The television film “Oriđinali”, for which the legendary Yugoslav and Montenegrin director needed only one more week of shooting in the summer of 1996 to finish, after twenty-eight years premiered as the documentary-drama film “Živko Nikolić – Nedosanjani san”, directed by Senad Šahmanović. It was an exclusive event at the 36th Montenegro Film Festival in Herceg Novi.
The film serves as a homage to one of the most important filmmakers of local cinema who passed away on August 17, 2001. It was shown in the city where he completed his Art School, as part of the festival’s accompanying program that awards a prize in his name – the “Živko Nikolić” award for special contributions to film expression. The premiere of this film was accompanied by several minutes of standing ovation from the packed audience at the “Park” Hall.
UNFULFILLED DREAM OF A RENOWNED DIRECTOR
“Živko Nikolić – Nedosanjani san” is actually, as explained by Senad Šahmanović, the director of this film, a “film about a film” that Nikolić failed to complete due to lack of funds. Živko shot about sixty percent of the material for that television film, but some of it was lost during numerous relocations and copying, so it was important to assemble, reconstruct, and then embark on further research.
Afterwards, discussions were held with his closest collaborators, shooting scripts were analyzed, plans and strategies were made, and then the realization began. Over time, the material started to take shape, but there wasn’t enough for a feature film, so it was decided to follow the idea of making a film about the film. Thus began the work that lasted for two years and culminated after 27 years with the re-shooting of the final, concluding scene with the actresses who participated in the filming of this movie back in 1995.
“Živko Nikolić – Nedosanjani san” was shot from the script by Dragan Koprivica. The cast includes Dijana Marojević, Svetlana Cemin, Mirko Vlahović, Milutin Karadžić, Dubravka Drakić, Ivana Mrvaljević, Jelena Mila, Bojana Kovačević, Marina Bukvički, Vesna Vujošević, Ljiljana Kontić, Dragomir Felba, Vera Crvenčanin Kulenović. The cinematography team consists of Savo Jovanović, Slavko Todorović, and Danilo Papić. The editor is Vladimir Radovanović, while Ivan Marović is in charge of the music. The film was produced by RTCG, with production credits for Radomir Pule Milović and Igor Maraš.
The narrator who “guides” the audience through the film is Petar, the son of Živko Nikolić. In this documentary, he reveals his dreams, desires, and conversations they had during the turbulent nineties. The film was shot in Nikšić, Podgorica, Belgrade, and New York. We recommend everyone, especially the new generations, to watch it because Živko Nikolić, unfortunately, was only truly understood after his passing.
IMPACTS, EMOTIONS, AND OVATIONS AFTER THE SCREENING
After the film screening, the audience was overwhelmed with emotions. Its next premiere is expected soon in Belgrade.
The acting students who accompanied our professor had the honor to share their sincere impressions and emotions through interaction with the director and senior actor colleagues after the screening.
