On Thursday, April 20, students of the Faculty of Contemporary Arts had the opportunity to personally meet the celebrated costume designer from this region – Marina Vukasović Medenica.
GUEST OF THE PANEL “SUSRETI” – RENOWNED COSTUME DESIGNER MARINA VUKASOVIĆ MEDENICA
Marina Vukasović Medenica graduated from the Faculty of Applied Arts in Belgrade and obtained a Master of Arts degree in costume design. She is engaged in costume design in theater, film, television, and marketing productions. In addition to applied costume design, she is involved in pedagogical and research work in the field of costume history and the history of clothing culture in the Balkans.
She has presented her research and artistic work through a series of solo and collective exhibitions. She has designed costumes for seventeen feature films directed by Dušan Makavejev, Slobodan Šijan, Darko Bajić, Boris Miljković, Branimir Dimitrijević, Goran Gajić, Srđan Dragojević, Miloš Radović, Goran Paskaljević, Dragan Bjelogrlić, and others. She is the recipient of the “Crystal Prism” award, the highest recognition of the Film Art & Science Academy of Serbia.
She has collaborated on the creation of performances at her home institution – the National Theatre in Belgrade – as well as in theaters across the country and abroad. In addition to dramatic performances, she has worked on costumes for operas and musicals. Some of the directors she has collaborated with in theater include Dušan Kovačević, Božidar Đurović, Nebojša Bradić, Nikita Milivojević, Egon Savin, Jagoš Marković, Jirži Mencl, Džon Ramster, Snežana Trišić, Maja Pelević, Milan Nešković, Gorčin Stojanović, and others.
She has received several annual awards from ULUPUDS (The Applied Artists and Designers Association of Serbia), as well as awards for costume design at theater festivals. She is a member of ULUPUDS as a distinguished artist and has received the Lifetime Achievement Award. At the Academy of Arts in Belgrade, she teaches the subject of Fundamentals of Scenography and Costumes to students of filmmaking, camera, and editing.
