The play “Carlotta Grisi – From Vižinada to Eternity”, which is the practical part of the artistic doctoral thesis of FCA doctoral student Annamaria Serda under the mentorship of Professor Vida Ognjenović, has been declared the best play at the 28th International Festival of Small Scenes and Monodrama in East Sarajevo.

The play, whose text was written by Annamaria Serda, who also portrays the character of Carlotta Grisi, was produced by the Opera b.b. from Zagreb and the festival “Rovinj, Art&more”. This dramatic musical follows the life of the world-renowned prima ballerina Carlotta Grisi, for whom the famous romantic ballet “Giselle” was written, and who had a great influence on the development of ballet art with her dance and personality. The play explores her personal struggle between her artistic aspirations and her private love affair with the famous choreographer Jules Perrot, portrayed by Ronald Braus in the play.

The festival’s expert jury justifies its decision by stating that “this play elevates a local topic to a universal level, and that it transcends all genre limitations, providing the audience with an exceptional emotional and educational experience through its excellent dramatic-musical expression.”

The play had a preview in Vižinada itself, in front of Carlotta Grisi’s birth house, and a premiere in Rovinj, at the Gandusio Theatre. This was followed by guest performances in Zagreb, Pula, Belgrade, Zaječar, Niš, London, and Trieste.
